I have tried to search and troubleshoot this. I cannot find the built in calendar app, when I click on the time and date in the lower right hand corner, the small calendar pops up but there is no cog wheel, no way to search it in windows etc. I cant add events etc to the small calendar that does pop out. Help.

In Windows 11, the small calendar that opens from the taskbar date/time is only for viewing dates. It is not the full calendar app, so it does not let you add events or appointments there.

For creating events, open the full app instead:

    1. Select Start.
    2. Type Outlook.
    3. Open Outlook (new).
    4. Select the Calendar icon in the left sidebar.
    5. Select New Event.
    6. Enter the title, date, start and end time.
    7. Set a Reminder if needed.
    8. Select Save.

For repeating reminders such as daily medication:

    1. In Outlook Calendar, select New Event.
    2. Enter the event name.
    3. Set the time.
    4. Select Repeat.
    5. Choose Daily, Weekly, or Custom.
    6. Set the reminder.
    7. Select Save.

If the old Windows Calendar app is missing, that is expected. Support for Windows Mail, Calendar, and People ended on December 31, 2024, and Microsoft recommends moving to new Outlook or Outlook.com.

If the taskbar calendar does not expand correctly, Windows 11 can also hide it when Remove Notifications and Action Center is enabled by policy. Check this in:

    • Win + Rgpedit.msc
    • User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar
    • or Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar
    • Open Remove Notifications and Action Center
    • If it is Enabled, the notification center is disabled
