I have the same problem. When I open the "Sound" control panel dialog I see two devices for my surface headphones. One is listed as Headset, and the other as Headphones:

if I look at the properties for the headset, they only support 1 channel:

Why are there two devices? Why when using as a headset is the audio limited to one channel. How should this be setup to have the best sound in all scenarios?

    What you are saying is not correct. I disabled the headset as a playpack device. Now i can take calls in stereo (through the headphone playback devices), and still be head through the headset recording devices. having to manually configure this is annoying. the surface headphone are a premim product and should automaticically set them selves up in the right configuration.

    Hello,

    Check to see that Surface Headphones Hands-Free audio profile is set as the default Windows sound profile on the host device.

    1. Go to Settings > System > Sounds.
    2. Under Choose your input device make sure that Headset (Surface Headphones Hands-Free) is selected.
    • Check the Windows application settings to see that the Surface Headphones Hands-Free audio profile is set.
    1. Go to Settings > System > Sounds.
    2. Under Other sound options, select App volume and device preferences.
    3. In the list of apps, find the application that you’re using.
    4. Make sure that the Input for that app is set to Default, because the master input setting was set to **Headset (Surface Headphones Hands-Free)**in the previous step.

    This did not work. This results in no audio at all. None through the headphones and none through the computer speakers. My guess is again that the computer is trying but there is a limitation in the buletooth version my dongle uses or the dongle itself.

    Hello,

    The reason why you have two devices seen in the sound its because the Surface headset is handfree, it means you can use it in answering a call. While the Surface headphone stereo, it is used only for music only.
