No option to turn off notifications for a single thread is gone AGAIN

Channel notification settings are not functioning in our greeting channel. I turned everything off, but I still receive notifications.

Previously, we could disable notifications on a single thread, but that option seems to have disappeared again.

We were nearly a year without that feature, which was available and then removed when Microsoft reworked the notification system in Teams.

Now, there's an 'unfollow thread' option that still doesn't stop notifications.

    Hello @Joël Azémar,
Thank you so much for taking the time to submit formal feedback through the Feedback Portal and for sharing the link with me.

I’ve just voted up your idea because I truly believe many users are also hoping that the ability to disable notifications on a single thread will return; or that Microsoft will introduce a new feature to help improve workflow and reduce distractions in busy channels.

    Issue Summary:

Microsoft Teams currently lacks a consistent and reliable way to mute notifications for individual conversation threads. This has been a recurring issue since 2023 and continues to impact daily productivity, especially in busy channels or group chats.

This feature needs to come back! I'm in so many teams that deal with multiple programs/projects. Some of them I am involved in, some I am not. I can't deal with constant notification spam from programs I have nothing to do with. I need to be able to mute threads that to not concern me!

The alternative is muting all notifications which is obviously not ideal because I will miss important updates. But I miss them anyways when they are intertwined with 100s of unimportant alerts.

    Hello @Joël Azémar,

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A forum!

First of all, I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you've been experiencing. I understand how disruptive this situation has been, and I truly appreciate your patience.

I hope you understand that as a forum moderator, I don’t have direct access to the internal workings or roadmap decisions of the Microsoft Teams product team and is limited to sharing general guidance based on documentation, research, and community experience.

However, after doing some research and reviewing the most recent documentation, it appears that Microsoft is gradually shifting how notifications are handled in Teams.

Although Microsoft has not officially confirmed the complete removal of this feature, recent documentation suggests that they seem to be moving away from the ability to mute individual threads; a feature that was previously available; and are instead focusing on newer notification models, such as Adaptive Cards and Power Automate-based flows.

Since this is by design, I highly recommend submitting feedback through the Microsoft 365 Feedback Hub to request the return of the ability to mute individual threads:

    • Go to Help > Feedback > Send Feedback
    • Describe your suggestion in detail.

    undefined

This allows the development team to understand the needs of real users. Not only Teams, but all Microsoft apps are continuously improved to better serve users like you. Your feedback may help us revive or introduce features that make a real difference.

Every submission is reviewed, and many product enhancements have come directly from user input. I’ll also submit feedback myself, as it’s clear that many users are experiencing the same issue.

Once again, thank you again for raising this issue; it’s helped broaden my understanding. I hope you understand that I want to help as much as I can within the scope of this forum.

I truly appreciate your understanding and patience as Microsoft continues to evolve the platform.

If you've already submitted feedback, please share the link here. That way, not only me but others who share the same idea will know how to raise their own feedback and can support yours, helping the development team become aware of it.

    Waiting for your reply!
