Dear Microsoft Support Team,

I hope you are well. I recently attempted to sign up for a free trial of Microsoft 365 Personal, which stated a one-month free trial period. To my surprise and disappointment, my account was immediately charged $159 for a full year.

I cancelled the subscription immediately upon noticing the charge, as I had only intended to use the free trial. I am very shocked and disappointed by this unexpected charge.

I would sincerely appreciate it if you could help me try to refund this transaction at your earliest convenience.

Date of charge: 23/11/25

Thank you very much for your understanding and assistance. I hope to hear from you soon.

    Hello,

This is a public forum, so for your privacy and security, we can’t help with billing issues here. Also, no one in this forum has access to your account or payment information.

To get help, open the "Get Help" app on your computer (just search for it in the Start menu). or go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus, Type "Billing" and press Enter. On the next screen, click "Contact support" at the bottom of the page, then choose "Microsoft 365" > "Manage my subscription". You’ll then see the option to chat with a Microsoft support agent who has access to your account to help review the issue.

To request a refund for an unexpected subscription charge after signing up for a free trial of Microsoft 365, you should follow these steps:

    1. Check Your Billing Account Type: Determine whether you have a Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA) or a Microsoft Online Subscription Agreement (MOSA) billing account type, as this will affect your refund options.
    2. Cancellation and Refund Policy: If you canceled your subscription immediately after noticing the charge, you may be eligible for a prorated refund. For MCA accounts, you typically have seven days to cancel and receive a prorated credit or refund. If more than seven days have passed since the subscription started or renewed, you can turn off recurring billing to prevent further charges, but refunds may not be guaranteed.
    3. Contact Support: Since you are seeking a refund, it is advisable to contact Microsoft 365 Support directly. You can do this through the support page or by calling their customer service. Provide them with your account details, the date of the charge, and explain your situation clearly.
    4. Document Your Request: Keep a record of your communication with support, including any confirmation numbers or emails regarding your refund request.

By following these steps, you should be able to initiate your refund request effectively.
