I recently paid for a Microsoft Office 365 subscription, but my account is still not activated and shows as unlicensed / inactive. I have already signed in using the same Microsoft account I used for payment.

    Dear @Shreya Parsewar,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details of your situation. When a subscription has been paid for but the account still shows as unlicensed, it usually indicates an issue with account linkage, payment processing, or license assignment. This can happen for several reasons, such as signing in with a different Microsoft account than the one used for purchase, a delay in license activation, or pending verification steps if the subscription was purchased through an educational institution.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum, and moderators cannot directly access billing systems or activate subscriptions. However, here are a few steps you can check to ensure everything is set up correctly:

    • Confirm that you are signed in with the same Microsoft account used for the purchase. Sometimes, multiple accounts (personal, school, or work) can cause confusion.
    • Verify your Order History at https://account.microsoft.com/services to ensure the payment was processed successfully.
    • If you purchased through an educational institution, the license may need to be assigned by your school’s IT administrator.
    • If the payment shows as completed but the subscription is still inactive, it may be a temporary synchronization delay. Try signing out and back in or check again after a short time.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, I recommend contacting Microsoft 365 Admin Center>Support>Help & Support.

For reference:  Get support | Microsoft Docs

I hope this information helps point you in the right direction. If you run into any issues while trying the steps, or if something still doesn’t feel quite right, please don’t hesitate to reach out again. I’ll do my best to support you however I can.

Looking forward to hearing back from you with any updates or additional details.

    Warm regards,

If your Microsoft Office 365 subscription is showing as unlicensed or inactive despite having paid for it, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:

    1. Check Subscription Status: Ensure that your subscription is active. You can do this by going to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, selecting Billing > Your products, and checking the status of your subscription. If it is inactive, you may need to reactivate it.
    2. Sign Out and Sign Back In: Sometimes, simply signing out of your Microsoft 365 account and signing back in can resolve activation issues. Open a Microsoft 365 app, select your name or profile picture, and choose Sign out. After signing out, sign back in using the same account you used for payment.
    3. Remove Office Credentials: You may need to remove any stored Office credentials from the Windows Credential Manager. Go to Credential Manager, select Windows credentials, and remove any entries related to Microsoft Office.
    4. Check for License Assignment: If you are part of an organization, ensure that the necessary licenses are assigned to your account. This can be done in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center under Users > Active users.
    5. Update Microsoft 365: Ensure that your Microsoft 365 apps are up to date. Open an app like Word, go to File > Account, and check for updates under Update options.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider contacting Microsoft support for further assistance.
