I read the answer you posted to this

Why is Teams still sending me emails for "Urgent" messages when I have already disabled missed activity emails.

Our missed activity emails are default to off for our organisation.

We have had tasks assigned to our group of 9 staff- a total of 8 per week which can be completed by any of the 8, on completion a notification assigning the next task is automatically sent out by the person who completed the task.

News flash microsoft- we were doing the tasks before they were ever put on teams- they were added to teams so that managers could get updated without walking to other departments to see the tasks have been done. We know the tasks need doing as they are regular and just do them- then add onto teams. We dont need an email to remind us.

These email notifications are adding significantly to clutter and mean I miss e-mails that I actually need to see because guess what computer world- some of us still have jobs that cannot be done by a computer (we are healthcare workers) so we don't sit by a PC every day and get to clear out junk, we are lucky to get to it once a week and then inbox is clogged. We want more tasks on teams but that cant happen if the result is going to be more notifications that we cant turn off. Its ridiculous to say that I need to set rules in my e-mail to block urgent messages from senders because these notifications appear to come from my colleagues not from teams. I cant block them as if they send me an urgent e-mail (as opposed to set me a task they appear to have no control over) then I need to see it.

How do I blanket stop automated notifications from teams when they come via my colleagues e-mails?????????

your design to force through "urgent" stuff is actually doing the very opposite of what it should do and is forcing through nonsense

    Hi @J. Blake,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us. I understand how inconvenient it can be to receive unnecessary email notifications, especially when they clutter your inbox and impact your workflow.

Tasks in Teams = Planner. The “Tasks” app in Teams is Microsoft Planner. Planner can send individual emails (when a task is assigned or near due) and group conversation emails (especially when someone adds a task comment). Those group emails can look like they were sent by a colleague, because they’re posted to the Microsoft 365 Group mailbox behind the plan. If a user is “following” the group, those messages land in their personal inbox.

Teams “missed activity emails.” Teams can also email summaries of activity when you’re away; these can be turned off per user.

Note: Planner always posts task‑comment threads to the plan’s group mailbox; there’s no switch to stop comment posts at the source. However, users can stop following the group so those posts don’t hit their inbox.

Here is suggestion you can try:

Turn off personal Planner task emails (each user)

    • Open Planner website
    • Select Settings ▸ Notifications.
    • Uncheck both:
      • Someone assigns a task to me
      • A task assigned to me is late, due today, or due in the next 7 days
    • Click Save.

Urgent messages in Teams (chat): If “urgent” chat messages are misused and cause disruptions, note that users cannot disable urgent behavior, but Admins can restrict it via Messaging policies. (Separately, users turning off missed activity emails prevents those urgent alerts from hitting email.)

To stop receiving automated email notifications from Microsoft Teams, you can adjust your notification settings in Teams. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Open Microsoft Teams and click on your profile picture at the top right corner.
    2. Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
    3. In the Settings menu, go to the Notifications section.
    4. Here, you can customize your notification preferences. Look for options related to tasks and activity notifications. You may want to set them to Off or adjust them to your preference.
    5. Additionally, if your organization has enabled missed activity emails, you can check with your IT administrator to ensure that these settings are configured correctly for your team.

If you have already disabled missed activity emails and are still receiving notifications, it might be due to specific settings in your organization or the way tasks are configured. You may need to discuss this with your IT department to find a solution that works for your team.
