How can I remove a user from all future occurrences of a recurring meeting?

We removed a user from all Microsoft 365 groups and permanently deleted the account from Entra ID.

However, the user is still visible as an attendee in all future occurrences of a recurring meeting

created earlier in Microsoft Teams / Outlook.

Steps already taken:

  • Removed the user from all M365 groups
  • Permanently deleted the user from Entra ID
  • Verified the account no longer exists in Microsoft 365

Despite this, the deleted user continues to appear in future recurring meetings.

What is the correct and supported way to remove a deleted user from all future occurrences of a

recurring meeting? Is this only possible by editing the meeting series as the organizer, or is there

an admin-level or PowerShell-based solution available?

    Hi @Sameer Yousuf

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum. I’ve carefully reviewed your query and also spent some time researching to see if there’s a supported solution for your scenario. One option that often comes up in similar cases is the PowerShell command Remove-CalendarEvents, which can cancel future meetings in user or resource mailboxes and remove them from attendee and resource calendars. However, this command requires the mailbox to be active and enabled for sending mail. Based on your description, the user has already been permanently deleted from Entra ID, which unfortunately makes this approach impossible to implement.

Given the current product design and limitations, the only supported way to remove the user from all future occurrences is by editing the meeting series as the organizer. I completely understand this may not be the answer you were hoping for, and I truly apologize for the inconvenience. As a forum moderator, my role is to assist based on public documentation, research, and community experience, I don’t have the ability to change product functionality.

I hope this explanation helps clarify the available options for you. Thank you so much for your understanding, and I truly look forward to supporting you again with any other questions you may have in the future.

To remove a deleted user from all future occurrences of a recurring meeting in Microsoft Teams or Outlook, you typically need to edit the meeting series as the organizer. Unfortunately, there is no direct admin-level or PowerShell-based solution provided in the context for this specific issue. The organizer of the meeting will need to update the meeting details to remove the attendee manually.

If the organizer is no longer available, you may need to have another user with appropriate permissions take ownership of the meeting to make the necessary changes.
