Is there an option to disable the delete task functionality for regular users?

Currently, every member of a Plan has the ability to delete tasks. When a task is deleted, it happens without any notification or "trash bin" recovery option for other members or owners. This could lead to data loss, without the teams knowledge. Is there an option to restrict the functionality (Not PowerShell) so that only Plan Owners can perform this action?

    Hello Ates, Baris

Thank you for raising this concern, and I completely understand your point about how task deletion can sometimes lead to unintended data loss for the team without anyone noticing.

At the moment, Microsoft Planner doesn’t include a built‑in option in the Planner or Teams interface to limit the delete permission only to Plan Owners. Because Planner is tied to the Microsoft 365 Group permission model, all members of the group inherit the same level of access, which includes creating, editing, and deleting tasks.

During my research, I found that there is a way to control deletion permissions using PowerShell. The good news is that the PowerShell method is quite straightforward, and it allows an admin to prevent specific users from deleting tasks they did not create. If you’re open to using this approach, I’d be more than happy to guide you through the steps: Block a user from deleting tasks in Microsoft Planner they didn't create - Microsoft Planner | Micr…

If PowerShell isn’t an option for your environment, then currently there isn’t yet a UI‑level control for this scenario. Because of that, I would strongly recommend submitting your suggestion through the Microsoft Feedback Portal: Planner · Community. This is the official channel where feedback is reviewed by the product team and taken into account for future updates.

Currently, Microsoft Planner does allow tenant admins to block specific users from deleting tasks that they did not create using PowerShell commands. However, there is no built-in option within the Planner interface itself to restrict the delete functionality for regular users without using PowerShell. Therefore, if you want to ensure that only Plan Owners can delete tasks, you would need to utilize the PowerShell cmdlet Set-PlannerUserPolicy to block task deletion for non-owner users.

If you are looking for a non-PowerShell solution, unfortunately, that capability does not exist as per the current documentation.
