Hi Team,

I am writing to request assistance regarding a Microsoft Office activation issue with a Lenovo laptop I purchased from Abenson. Date of purchase: December 12, 2025 Item: Lenovo NBK IP 3 (Model: 82x700FYPH) At the time of purchase, the store staff assisted in setting up the laptop and asked me to log in using my personal Microsoft account (Gmail). Unfortunately, it was only explained afterward that the lifetime Microsoft Office package included with the laptop would be permanently linked to the first Microsoft account used during activation. I was not informed beforehand that this activation would permanently bind the Office license to my personal account. This laptop was intended for my son’s use, and ideally, the Microsoft Office license should be registered under his Microsoft account instead. I am respectfully requesting your assistance with any of the following possible solutions: - Resetting or correcting the Microsoft Office activation so it can be registered under my son’s Microsoft account, or - Providing an alternative solution to properly assign the included lifetime Microsoft Office license to the intended user.

This concern arose due to the activation process performed at the point of sale, and I hope you can help address this matter fairly. Thank you very much for your time and support. I look forward to your guidance on how this can be resolved.

Best Regards,

Marj

    Hi, marj

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.

With preinstalled or bundled one-time Office licenses, the entitlement is associated with the first Microsoft account used to redeem or activate it, and that same account is then used for reinstall and activation going forward.

Here are some suggestions you can try to resolve this issue:

Confirm which account currently owns the license: on the laptop, open Word (or any Office app) > File > Account and check the email shown under “Belongs to”, and also sign in at https://account.microsoft.com/services to see whether Office appears under Services and subscriptions.

If the license is already tied to your Gmail account, please contact Microsoft Support and request an ownership or account-association review. Provide the proof of purchase from Abenson, the device model Lenovo NBK IP 3 (82x700FYPH), the device serial number, and the purchase date (December 12, 2025). In some regions, Support can transfer a one-time purchase to another person after verification and send the new licensee instructions to associate it with their Microsoft account.

If Support confirms the license cannot be moved between accounts, please ask Abenson or Lenovo for the appropriate OEM redemption remedy for this device, since the license is assigned to the hardware and Lenovo activation flows are manufacturer-specific.

If a replacement key or new redemption is provided, redeem it while signed into your son’s Microsoft account at www.office.com/setup, then complete the activation prompts on the laptop.

Hope this helps. Feel free to get back if you need further assistance.

Unfortunately, the activation of Microsoft Office is typically bound to the Microsoft account that was used during the initial activation process. If the Office license was activated with the wrong account, it cannot be transferred to another account directly. Here are a few steps you can take to address this issue:

    1. Contact Microsoft Support: Reach out to Microsoft Support for assistance. They may be able to provide options or solutions specific to your situation.
    2. Check for License Transfer Options: In some cases, Microsoft may allow for a license transfer under certain conditions. This would need to be confirmed with their support team.
    3. Create a New Microsoft Account: If the license cannot be transferred, consider creating a new Microsoft account for your son and using that account for future purchases or subscriptions.

Since this issue arose due to the activation process at the point of sale, it’s important to explain the situation clearly to Microsoft Support, as they may have specific protocols for such cases.
