Please could someone help with inserting tables in MS Outlook for web?

All the formatting and insert buttons are permanently greyed out.

The previous workaround, pressing the 3 dots button and selecting Switch to HTML has been removed by Microsoft.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi @Damian W

    I hope you're having a great day.

When all formatting and insert buttons (such as bold, bullets, or insert table) appear greyed out in Outlook on the web, this usually means the message is being composed in Plain Text (or is being forced into Plain Text). In Plain Text mode, Outlook disables all formatting features, including the ability to insert tables.

You can resolve this by switching the message format back to HTML. Please try one of the options below:

Option 1: Set HTML as the default format

    1. Click the Settings (gear icon) in Outlook on the web
    2. Go to Mail > Compose and reply
    3. Under Message format, set Compose messages in to HTML
    4. User's image
    5. Click Save then go back and check whether the formatting options have been enabled.

More details are available here: Change the message format to HTML, Rich Text Format, or plain text in Outlook - Microsoft Support
Option 2: Switch format while composing an email

While composing a new message (or replying/forwarding):

    1. Open the message compose window (use Pop out if needed)
    2. Click Options
    3. Switch the format to HTML or Rich Text (the UI may show “Switch to plain text” depending on the current state)
    4. User's image

Once the message is in HTML format, the toolbar should become active again. You can then go to Insert > Table and choose the number of rows and columns you need.

    • User's image
