I need help to log into outlook after resetting account password

I did reset my microsoft account password successfully yesterday. But since that I do not receive/send e-mails from my corresponding outlook account. E-mails from other accounts are exchangeable using same software. All attempts to log in into that e-mail account failed. I am afraid my e-mail account is hacked. Howi can talk to Microsoft support in person?

    Hi Tatiana Pliassounova

I understand you’re having trouble signing in to your Outlook.com account in new Outlook for Windows after a password reset, and you can’t send/receive email. You’re also concerned the account may be compromised.

When you try to sign in at account.microsoft.com using the new password, what exact message do you see?

    • “Account locked/blocked”
    • “Can’t verify / needs additional verification”
    • Or it signs in successfully but mail still won’t sync/send

    Meanwhile, please:

    1) Confirm whether this is a sign-in block / security hold

    2) Check mailbox/storage conditions that stop send/receive even with the correct password

If your Outlook.com mailbox or OneDrive storage is full, you may be unable to send or receive email. Check storage usage and free up space if needed.

    3) If you suspect compromise: verify account activity and secure the account

    • Review the Recent activity page and mark unfamiliar sign-ins as “This wasn’t me.”
    • After access is restored, enable two-step verification to reduce takeover risk.

    4) To reach Microsoft Support

    • Visit Contact - Microsoft Support (Only chat support is available for personal account)
    • Type a brief description of your issue in the search box
    • Scroll down to the bottom > select Sign in to contact support
    • Log in to another available personal Microsoft account.
    • Under Products & Services, select "Other Products"; Under Categories, select "Manage account security", and click Confirm.
    • Click "Chat with a support agent in your web browser" (during business hours)

Please tell me how it goes. Thank you for your time and understanding. Have a nice day !

After changing the Microsoft account password, the Outlook profile must be updated to use the new credentials; otherwise sending/receiving will fail.

Do the following in Outlook for Windows (new Outlook):

    1. Update the password in Outlook
      1. In new Outlook, select the icon next to the affected email account name in the left pane.
      2. A sign-in pop‑up should appear. Select Continue.
      3. Follow the prompts and enter the new Microsoft account password.
      4. After successful sign‑in, wait a few minutes and test sending/receiving mail.
    2. If Outlook still asks for a password or fails to connect
      • If you see a message like “Please create an app password for Outlook on your email provider's site”, go to your email provider’s site, generate an app password, copy it, and paste it into Outlook when prompted.
    3. If you suspect the account is compromised or cannot sign in anywhere
      • Use the Microsoft account recovery flow to secure the account and reset the password again if needed: select Recover your account at Recover your account and follow the steps (enter account, receive security code, set a new password).
      • Ensure the correct email domain is used (for example, .com vs .co.uk) and that the email name is typed correctly.
    4. Contacting Microsoft support
      • For sign‑in and account issues, use the official support entry points in the browser:
        • For Microsoft account sign‑in problems and recovery help, see My username and password have stopped working and use the Contact support option there.
        • For Outlook.com account access issues, use the Still need help? options described in the Outlook.com help pages to reach support (web help, then escalate to support if needed).

These channels are the supported way to get to a support agent; direct phone escalation for consumer Outlook.com/Microsoft accounts is not available outside what is offered through those support flows.
