To try to get money back for an unwanted Minecraft Realms subscription, cancellation and refund eligibility must be checked through the Microsoft account used for the purchase.
- Investigate the charges
- If any of the charges are not recognized or may be linked to another account, review them on the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard: Manage your payments.
- For more detail on unknown charges, see How to investigate a billing charge from Microsoft (linked from several of the referenced articles).
- Cancel the Minecraft Realms subscription
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the Microsoft account that was used to pay for the Realms subscription.
- Find the relevant subscription (for example, a Minecraft/Microsoft subscription entry) and select Manage.
- On the next page, choose Cancel (or Upgrade or Cancel, depending on what is shown), then follow the on-screen steps to complete cancellation.
- If Turn on recurring billing is shown instead of Manage, the subscription is already set to expire and will not be charged again.
- Check refund eligibility
- For Microsoft subscriptions in general, a refund is only possible if the subscription is canceled and the purchase meets the refund rules. Not all cancellations result in a refund.
- After cancellation, use the Microsoft subscription refund guidance and self-help tools described here: How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription.
- If the subscription was purchased through Google Play or the Apple App Store instead of directly from Microsoft, contact Google or Apple support for cancellation/refund as described in the “Other” subscriptions section.
- If still not resolved, contact Microsoft Support
- If the charges look incorrect, are older than what the self-service tools show, or the refund option does not appear even though the situation should qualify, contact Microsoft Support for billing help. Provide dates, amounts, and any transaction IDs so they can locate the subscription and review refund options.
If the bank or card issuer has already flagged the payments as fraudulent, also work with them on possible chargebacks, but note that repeated misuse of chargebacks can be treated as fraud.
