I purchased a one-time office home 2024 license for my new MacBook Air and now it is requiring me to subscribe to 365 which I did not purchase and do NOT want. How do I fix this problem?

I purchased Office Home 2024 through the Apple Store and was physically sent the Product Key card through the regular mail.

Then I followed the directions to establish an MS account downloaded and installed what I thought was the correct version, even though that screen was a cluttered with various MS offerings, so I’m guessing this is where I made a mistake. After this, I tried to open/activate MS Word and that’s when it asked me to start a subscription, which don’t want and did NOT proceed to do.

I tried then search for solutions, and found some, but many seemed a bit out-of-date perhaps. Specifically, I’ve run into trouble downloading the “remover” tool. Perhaps the links I found were out-dated for this.

I’ll try the one you provided.

To use the purchased one-time Office Home 2024 on the MacBook Air instead of a Microsoft 365 subscription, do the following:

Turn off any Microsoft 365 subscription
1. Go to the Subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services.
2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account currently used in Office.
3. Select Turn off recurring billing for any Microsoft 365 subscription so it can expire and not be used.
Make sure the Office Home 2024 license is redeemed and linked to the correct Microsoft account
1. If the product key has not been redeemed yet, go to the Office setup page (for example, via the Use it now / Get started flow described in the Office Home and Business 2024 steps) and redeem the key with the Microsoft account that will be used on the Mac.
2. Then go to the Microsoft dashboard at https://account.microsoft.com and open Services (https://account.microsoft.com/services).
3. Confirm that Microsoft Office Home and Business 2024 (or the purchased Office Home 2024 product) appears under Products you've purchased. This confirms the account now has the one-time license.
Remove old/incorrect Office licensing from the Mac
1. Download the Office license removal tool for Mac: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=849815.
2. Open the .pkg file from the Mac Downloads folder.
3. Select Continue and follow the setup wizard prompts.
4. When ready, select Install (enter the Mac local admin password if prompted).
5. After the tool completes, select Close.
6. Optionally uninstall the License Removal Tool by dragging Microsoft_Office_License_Removal from Finder > Downloads to Trash.
Reactivate Office using the one-time purchase license
1. Open any Office app (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) on the Mac.
2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account that shows Office Home 2024 / Office Home and Business 2024 under Products you've purchased.
3. If prompted to choose a license, select the one-time Office 2024 product instead of any Microsoft 365 subscription.

After these steps, Office should run as the purchased one-time Office 2024 license and no longer require a Microsoft 365 subscription.
