I have just upgraded from microsoft 365 family to Microsoft 365 Premium. The reason is to be able to use team for my business to collaboratee. But currently, I see still the 3 people ICON named as communities instead of Team. Before upgrating, I read the benefits and it says with the premium, I will have access to teams for collaboration. Please what is going on, why is my teams page still the same as before. I would prefer not to pay more for upgrade if there is not added benefits.

Hello, as long as you are using Teams with a personal account, even if you have to pay for a subscription, you would not see collaboration features such as creating teams and channels. You need to sign up for a business subscription instead in this case. You need at least teams essential license, or Microsoft 365 business basic, standard or premium. Note, the premium here is the business 365 premium, not the personal account 365 premium.

if you do sign up for the business plan, it will have you create a new username that ends with onmicrosoft.com. Make sure you write that down because that's your user credential to log into Teams after that. And the subscription will be managed via this link https://admin.microsoft.com.

    Hello David Agbro

I understand why this is confusing, especially since you upgraded mainly to use Teams for business collaboration.

Microsoft 365 Premium is still a personal/home subscription, so Teams may continue to show the Communities experience instead of the business Teams and channels experience. The Premium plan adds extra personal subscription benefits, but it does not convert your Teams account into a business/work account.

If your goal is to collaborate with a business team using Teams and channels, you would need a Microsoft 365 business plan, such as Microsoft 365 Business Standard with Teams where available.

    Please try these steps:

    1. Go to Microsoft account services.
    2. Manage or cancel the Microsoft 365 Premium upgrade from there.
    3. Purchase Microsoft 365 Business Standard with Teams if you need business Teams collaboration.
    4. After purchase, sign in to Teams with the new work/business account, not the personal account.
    5. In Teams, select your profile picture to switch between personal and work accounts if both are added.

You can refer to this site for info on Microsoft business standard:

Microsoft 365 Premium is a consumer subscription that adds advanced AI and productivity features (such as higher Copilot usage limits), but it does not convert a personal Microsoft 365 account into a business/enterprise tenant with full Microsoft Teams (for organizations) capabilities.

The “Communities” experience with the three‑people icon indicates the consumer/Teams (free) style experience, not the business Teams service that organizations use for structured collaboration (teams, channels, etc.). Upgrading from Microsoft 365 Family to Microsoft 365 Premium does not change the underlying account type or provision a Microsoft 365 business tenant, so the Teams experience remains the same.

To use full Teams for business collaboration (with organizational teams, channels, policies, etc.), a Microsoft 365 business or enterprise subscription with Teams and an appropriate tenant is required. Microsoft 365 Premium alone does not provide that.

If the primary goal is Teams for business collaboration and there is no added value from the Premium AI/productivity features, consider whether a Microsoft 365 business plan with Teams is more appropriate than staying on Microsoft 365 Premium.
