I've purchased a key for Office 2024 Professional Plus, I've tried several times to download today, it accepts my key, allows me to select 64 bit then gives me the error Service Unavailable, try again later.

I've tried several times over 12 hours with no luck.

Any suggestions? Why is it so hard to download office these days? I want the desktop version, not interested in 365 at this stage as its for home use.

I'm afraid that the AI-generated response from Q&A Assist is correct. There are no consumer licenses of Office Professional 2024 or Office Professional Plus 2024; these are volume licenses intended for (large) organizations, only (see https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/ltsc/2024/overview ).

You will have to contact the seller and try to get your money back.

Office 2024 Professional Plus is a volume license product intended for organizations, not for home/consumer use. It is not sold directly to individual users by Microsoft, and volume licenses such as “Professional Plus” cannot be legitimately resold for home use.

When a key for this type of product is entered on setup/activation sites intended for retail or home products, download and activation issues are expected (including “Service unavailable” or being unable to obtain the correct installer), because the infrastructure and entitlement model are different from consumer Microsoft 365/Office products.

    Given that:

    1. Office “Professional Plus” 2024 is a volume license SKU.
    2. Volume licenses are meant for organizations and are not supposed to be sold as “lifetime” home licenses.
    3. Third‑party sellers offering such keys to consumers are typically violating Microsoft’s licensing terms.

The appropriate next step is to dispute the purchase with the seller (and, if needed, with the payment provider) and request a refund, as this license type is not supported for home use via the standard consumer download/activation flow.

For a supported desktop Office experience at home, a genuine retail Microsoft 365 or perpetual Office (non‑“Plus”) license purchased through official Microsoft channels or reputable retailers is required.
