Hi Daniel Spahr
I understand how alarming it is to see your account compromised and important emails missing.
To help me guide you better, could you please clarify:
- Are you still able to sign in to your Outlook.com account?
- Do you see any unknown forwarding rules or email rules set up?
Meanwhile, please try the following:
1, Secure your account (if you still have access)
- Go to: https://account.microsoft.com/security
- Click “Change password” and create a strong new password
- Then run the “Review activity” and “Secure your account” steps
For reference, you can see:
2, Check for hidden mail rules
Attackers often create rules to delete or move emails:
- In Outlook.com, go to “Settings” > “Mail” > “Rules”
- Remove anything suspicious
Also check: “Settings” > “Mail” > “Forwarding” (disable if enabled unexpectedly)
3, Try to recover recently deleted items
Even if Deleted Items is empty:
- Open “Deleted Items” folder
- Click “Recover items deleted from this folder” at the top
Note: This only restores emails that are still within Microsoft’s retention window. Older emails (like several years ago) may no longer be recoverable.
If emails were permanently deleted and are outside the retention period, they cannot be restored by support or any tool. Thank you for your understanding.
