    Hello Christa Richard,

Thanks for reaching out. The steps above will get you there — just a couple of things worth knowing before you click through.

First, when you reach the list of restore points, if it looks empty or much shorter than you'd expect, that's because System Protection has to have been turned on beforehand for points to exist. You can check that in the same window under Configure.

Also, on Windows 11 24H2, restore points older than 60 days aren't usable anymore. So if you're trying to go back further than about two months, System Restore won't get you there and we'd need a different approach.

If you can share what you're trying to undo — a bad update, a driver, an app — I'm happy to point you in the right direction if the restore point you need isn't available.

"How do I get to restore to a certain point? Exactly!"

By restoring a backup that you made at that exact point in time. There is no other way.

Please note: A Windows restore point is not a backup.

In Windows 11, restoring the system to an earlier point is done with System Restore using a restore point.

    To restore from within Windows:

    1. Open Run (Windows key + R).
    2. Type rstrui.exe and press Enter.
    3. In Restore system files and settings, select Next.
    4. Select the restore point to use. If the desired point is not visible, select Show more restore points.
    5. Optionally select Scan for affected programs to see what will change.
    6. Select Next, then Finish.
    7. Windows will restart and apply the restore point.

To restore from Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE):

    1. Restart the PC and enter WinRE (for example, from Settings → System → Recovery → Advanced startup or after repeated failed boots).
    2. Use System Restore in WinRE to choose and apply a restore point, following similar steps to select the exact restore point and confirm.

Note: System Restore reverts system files, registry, and installed programs to the selected point but does not affect personal files.
