My credit card was stolen and I am being charged for a business account subscription I am not using

I have tried to resolve this for a week now and have used your chat system and even tried to find a way to talk to a human being. I am very displeased in the customer service experience I have had so far with Microsoft. When I finally did get someone to call me from Microsoft, the phone was disconnected during a transfer and when I called the number back it sent me to this online link. This is not good service. I have worked in the customer service industry for 20 years for the second largest employment agency in the state in which I live and we would NEVER treat our customers like this. I have been charged $312 a month since October 28th, 2025 for a business account I do not use and that is not attached to my email address. Microsoft has to date has charged me $2187.50. The only reason I didn't catch it sooner is because my mother was in the hospital with cancer and died. My focus was on her. When I found the charges I knew we needed to recover the funds. Please have a PERSON call me ASAP! Thank you

    Hi @John Henry Lippard

I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing this I understand how worrying it can be when you see charges you don’t recognize. As a forum moderator, I’m not able to assist directly with account or billing actions, but I can guide you on the next step to address and prevent further charges.

Here are a few steps you can try:

    1. Contact your bank or card provider immediately
    • Let them know your credit card has been stolen or compromised
    • Ask them to block or cancel the card and issue a replacement
    • Request a fraud dispute (chargeback) for the subscription charges you did not authorize
    • Ask them to block any future recurring charges from this merchant

This step is critical to prevent any additional charges while the issue is being investigated.

    1. Contact Microsoft Support (for investigation)

Since this appears to be related to a Microsoft business subscription, support is handled through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. You can reach out to Microsoft Support to report the issue, so they can review the charges and check if the payment method can be removed from the associated account.

Please consider registering for a new tenant by signing up for a trial subscription via this link Compare All Microsoft 365 Plans. This would allow you to create a new tenant following the provided prompts.

    • Follow the guided setup to create a new Microsoft account and a new tenant.
    • This tenant will be completely separate from your existing Microsoft 365 environment.

Once set up, you can access the admin console of the new tenant by logging into admin center and follow the steps in this article: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin and submit a support ticket requesting to speak with Microsoft support team.

When contacting support, it helps to include:

    • Last 4 digits of your card
    • Charge amount and date
    • A brief explanation that you do not recognize or own the subscription

Before submitting the ticket, make sure the Support Assistant is turned Off as several customers have reported that when the Support Assistant is enabled, the Contact Support option may not appear.

As shown in the screenshot, simply switch Support Assistant > Off, then enter your issue description. Once disabled, the Contact Support button should appear, allowing you to submit the ticket normally.

    Important note:

    • The trial tenant is created only to help you contact Microsoft Support. It will not provide access to any data, users, or services related to the subscription that is being charged to your card.
    • Once Microsoft Support has reviewed your case, you may want to cancel the trial subscription from the Microsoft 365 Admin Center (Billing > Your products)

Please remember to cancel the trial subscription once your issue is resolved to avoid any unintended charges.

As forum moderator, I don’t have access to the detailed system needed to troubleshoot this effectively due to privacy and security constraints. To quickly resolve this and regain access, the most effective step is to contact Microsoft Support Team directly for better assistance.

I hope this helps give you a clearer path forward and hopefully the support team will be able to review your issue and assist you further.

"I have tried to resolve this for a week now and have used your chat system ..."

There is nothing that Microsoft can do about your stolen credit card.

If your credit card was stolen, you need to contact the card issuer and quickly. Until you do, the thief continues to have the ability to use your stolen credentials.

The situation described involves unauthorized or unrecognized business subscription charges and requires direct handling by Microsoft’s billing/support teams plus the card issuer. Community forums and this channel cannot access accounts, cancel subscriptions, or issue refunds.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Immediately protect the credit card
      • Contact the bank or card issuer right away.
      • Report the charges as unauthorized/fraudulent.
      • Request a chargeback for all Microsoft charges that were not authorized.
      • Ask them to block future Microsoft charges on that card and issue a new card if this has not already been done.
    2. Investigate the Microsoft charges
Because the subscription is not attached to the known email, use Microsoft’s billing investigation flow:
      • Go to the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard and select “Investigate” for the unrecognized charge. Details are in How to investigate a billing charge from Microsoft.
      • The troubleshooter there helps identify if:
        • A subscription with recurring billing is active,
        • Someone else used the card,
        • A previously declined charge was retried,
        • A pre-order/split order was processed, or
        • An in‑app purchase was made.
    3. Contact Microsoft billing/support directly (business scenario)
For business subscriptions and large recurring charges, contact Microsoft support rather than relying on forums:
      • If there is access to a Microsoft 365 admin account, sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center and open a billing support ticket (Help & support → describe the billing issue → Contact support). This is the standard path for business billing corrections and duplicate/unauthorized charges.
      • If there is no admin account or the subscription cannot be located, use the Customer service entry point for home or business users and select Get Help. Describe it as an unauthorized business subscription charge and request escalation to the billing team.
    4. If the subscription is tied to an unknown account
      • If Microsoft support cannot find the subscription under any of the known accounts, treat the situation as card fraud.
      • In that case, the bank/issuer is the primary path for reimbursement via chargeback, and the card should remain blocked/replaced.
    5. Refund eligibility
      • Once the subscription/charges are located, the billing team can check refund eligibility based on Microsoft’s subscription refund policies.
      • If the charges are confirmed as unauthorized, combine:
        • Microsoft’s internal investigation/refund where possible, and
        • The bank’s chargeback process for any remaining amounts.
    6. Future prevention
      • After receiving a new card, avoid storing it in accounts that are not actively used.
      • Regularly review statements for any MICROSOFT or MSFT descriptors and use the Investigate option promptly for anything unrecognized.

For a direct, human-assisted path, use the official Get Help/Contact Support flows described in the customer service and billing articles; these are the supported ways to reach a live agent (chat or callback) for both home and business users.
