Headset not detecting microphone

Does your headset have 2 jack connectors P2 (two black or white lines), a single jack connector P3 (three black or white lines), a USB connector, or is it connected via Bluetooth?

Also, share a screenshot of your system information.

its not even showing up on my mics

Try these steps on Windows 11 to get the headset microphone detected again:

1. Check the headset and mute switch
   • Make sure the headset plug is fully inserted or the Bluetooth headset is properly paired and connected.
   • If the headset has a physical Mute button or switch, make sure it is not active.
2. Make sure apps can use the microphone
   1. Select Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
   2. Turn Microphone access On.
   3. Turn Let apps access your microphone On, then enable it for apps that need it (for example, Discord if it appears there).
   4. Also turn Let desktop apps access your microphone On.
3. Set the headset as the default input and test it
   1. Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
   2. Under Input, in Choose a device for speaking or recording, select the headset microphone.
   3. Select the > next to the device name to open its properties.
   4. Use Start test under Microphone test, speak normally, then Stop test and Play the recorded sample to confirm it works.
4. If others still cannot hear in apps (like Discord)
   • After confirming the mic works in Settings > System > Sound, open the app’s audio/voice settings and select the same headset as the input device.
5. If Windows does not detect the headset microphone at all
   1. Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
   2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
   3. Right-click the audio device for the headset or sound card and select Uninstall device. If available, check Attempt to remove the driver for this device (or Delete the driver software for this device) and select Uninstall. Repeat for other audio devices if needed.
   4. Restart the PC so Windows reinstalls audio devices and drivers automatically.
   5. If they do not reinstall, open Device Manager, right-click Sound, video and game controllers, and select Scan for hardware changes.
   6. After they reappear, right-click the audio driver and select Update driver.
6. If the microphone volume is too low or still seems dead
   1. Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
   2. In Input, select the headset microphone.
   3. Under Input settings, use Start test and adjust the Input volume slider until the recording sounds clear.

If the internal mic or a different wired headset works but this specific headset mic never appears as an input device, the issue can be with that headset’s pairing/driver on this PC; removing it from Bluetooth & devices, re-pairing, and repeating the steps above can also help.
