Is that how you normally sign into OneDrive by getting codes sent to your email? If so, you need to update your authentication procedures. If you are using passkeys, you are already using the best method, and no codes will be needed.

    Hi!

Usually when you are asked for your email, it either means you don't have permission, or OneDrive is validating your login to access the shared files.

First, check with the senders to see if they have added your email as an Editor or Reader of the document. See the link below:

After that, if the problem persists, see the link below.

    • Click Start and follow the steps.
    • You can also expand "I'm not getting my Microsoft account verification code" and follow the steps.
    • Use the Login Assistant at the end.

Also try: - In another browser, such as Microsoft Edge or Mozilla Firefox

    • Try on another device, such as OneDrive Mobile.

Try the following steps to resolve not receiving verification codes to the email address:

    1. Confirm the correct email is being used
      • Verification codes are only sent to the primary alias or an email added as a way to verify sign-in.
      • Make sure the address shown on the verification screen matches the account being checked.
    2. Check junk/spam and filtering
      • Look in the junk/spam folder for a message from an @accountprotection.microsoft.com address.
      • If found, mark @accountprotection.microsoft.com as a trusted/safe sender so future codes go to the inbox.
    3. Avoid repeated requests
      • Do not repeatedly click “resend code” or switch methods too often. Excessive or repetitive requests can cause a temporary block where codes are not sent.
    4. Wait out temporary blocks or delays
      • Microsoft may temporarily stop sending codes if there is unusual activity or heavy compromised traffic from the region. These blocks and delays clear automatically after some time. Wait at least 24 hours before trying again, and avoid multiple retries during that period.
    5. Check for VOIP or incorrect address
      • If using a phone-based method anywhere in the flow, make sure it is a mobile number, not VOIP.
      • Verify that the email address is entered correctly; only partial characters are shown on the screen for security, so confirm it matches the actual account.
    6. Use another verification method if available
      • If the site or service allows, choose another verification method already configured on the account (alternate email, phone, or authenticator app) instead of the problematic one.
    7. If still blocked or no codes arrive
      • Use the sign-in helper to diagnose sign-in and verification issues: Sign-in helper.
      • If access is still not possible, go to Contact Microsoft Support, describe the verification-code problem, and select Get Help, then Contact Support if needed. Support agents cannot send codes or change account details but can help troubleshoot.
