Surface Laptop Copilot 13.8 Snapdragon X Elite update and bluetooth issues

I have a Surface Laptop Copilot 13.8 Snapdragon X Elite. It will not install update 2026-04. The download completes and when it reaches 100% install the update fails. I attempted a Windows 11 reset only to reach 11% then it rolls back.

I tried finding an image for the Windows 11 ARM version with no success. I have had several blutooth device issues with the laptop since purchase in November 2025. Please advise.

The official Surface recovery images are at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface-recovery-image - sign in with the account you used to setup and register your Surface. Get the latest available recovery image and after it completes installation, go to Settings, Windows Updates and check for additional updates. If this fails, you should contact support for an exchange.

For a Surface Laptop Copilot+ PC 13.8" with Snapdragon X Elite that will not install a monthly update and is also having Bluetooth issues, use a combination of firmware/driver updates and the Surface IT Toolkit.

    1. Confirm device and OS requirements
    • The June 2025 and later firmware/driver updates for Surface Laptop (7th Edition) require Windows 11, version 24H2 or later.
    • Ensure Windows 11 is at least 24H2 before expecting newer Surface updates to apply.
    1. Apply the latest Surface Laptop firmware and drivers The June 2025 update for Surface Laptop (7th Edition) includes components for Snapdragon X Elite and addresses several reliability and audio/Bluetooth-related issues:
    • Improves overall stability and reduces crashes and error screens.
    • Reduces crashes during audio streaming sessions.
    • Fixes intermittent audio disruption with Bluetooth headsets.
    • Fixes Teams audio dropping when switching between Bluetooth and built‑in speakers.
    • Fixes USB and Thunderbolt 4 monitor interoperability issues.

Make sure all of the following device components are up to date via Windows Update on the Surface Laptop:

    • Surface Camera Front – Extensions (1.0.4258.7908)
    • Surface Camera Platform Device – Extensions (1.0.4258.7908)
    • Qualcomm Adreno X1‑85 GPU – Display adapters (31.0.105.0)
    • Snapdragon X Elite – X1E80100 – Qualcomm Adreno GPU – Extensions (31.0.105.3)
    • Surface Machine Learning Service Device – System devices (6.35.52.0)
    • Surface Hid Mini Driver – Human Interface Devices (3.98.18.0)

If these are not present or not current, keep checking Windows Update after resolving the failed OS update (steps below).

    1. Use Surface IT Toolkit for recovery and repair Surface IT Toolkit fully supports Surface Laptop 7th Edition (Snapdragon) and provides tools to repair or rebuild the device:
    • Supported model: Surface Laptop 7th Edition (Snapdragon) is listed under the Surface Laptop family.
    • Key tools relevant to this scenario:
      • Recovery Tool: Create a USB recovery image to restore the Surface Laptop to factory state.
      • Data Eraser: Securely erase the SSD if a full wipe is required before reinstall.
      • UEFI Configurator: Ensure UEFI settings are correct if there are boot or rollback issues.

    Steps:

    1. On a working Windows PC, install Surface IT Toolkit.
    2. In Surface IT Toolkit, add Surface Laptop 7th Edition (Snapdragon) to Managed Devices.
    3. Use Create USB Recovery Image to download and build a Windows 11 ARM recovery USB for the exact model.
    4. Boot the Surface Laptop from this USB and perform a factory recovery. This bypasses the need to find a separate ARM ISO and can fix update failures and rollback at 11%.
    5. Address Bluetooth issues after recovery/update Once the OS and firmware are current:
    • Re‑pair Bluetooth devices after removing them from Bluetooth settings.
    • Ensure all Surface and Qualcomm components from the June 2025 update set are installed, as they include fixes for Bluetooth audio disruptions and Teams audio switching issues.

If the 2026‑04 update continues to fail even after a full recovery image reinstall and all firmware updates, collect logs and contact Microsoft Support, referencing that the device is a Surface Laptop Copilot+ PC 13.8" (Snapdragon X Elite) and that Surface IT Toolkit recovery has already been attempted.
