Outlook Android email widget blank or not updating on Galaxy Z Fold 8 — disable Screen Sender

On my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Outlook email widget would not display or update emails, even though email worked inside the Outlook app.

I repeatedly tried the commonly recommended fixes, including removing and recreating the widget, restarting the phone, clearing Outlook’s cache, force-stopping Outlook, resetting/reinstalling Outlook, allowing background activity, and setting Outlook’s battery use to Unrestricted. None fixed the widget while Outlook’s Screen Sender feature remained enabled.

The problem was fixed only after I opened Outlook and turned off Screen Sender. The email widget then began displaying and updating normally. I did not factory-reset the phone.

Because I had already performed the other troubleshooting steps, I cannot say whether some of them were also necessary. However, I can confirm that those steps alone did not solve the problem: disabling Screen Sender was the missing and decisive step.

    Hello Vincent Criscione,

It is helpful to know that the Outlook email widget started displaying and updating again after Screen Sender was disabled, especially since the usual widget and battery troubleshooting had already been completed.

Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors cannot confirm whether this behavior affects other devices or Outlook versions. At this stage, disabling Screen Sender should be treated as a device-specific workaround rather than a confirmed general fix. Other users experiencing the same symptom can also review the official Outlook Android widget guidance.

Your detailed findings may help others using Outlook for Android on similar Samsung foldable devices.
