Edge has WIDENED after watching Full Screen video clip.

If having watched a video clip expanded to Full Screen, upon reverting back, Edge has WIDENED substantially. It then has be 'resized' (back) to what it WAS. Does it regardless of what web site. I can find no reason nor remedy. Never had this behaviour before Edge GA 143.

I have just confirmed this applies to ALL Edge Channels AND Edge in Canary Insider Build.

Not exclusive to Edge GA nor to Win11 GA.

Any thoughts, comments are welcome.

I have been for a long time working/collaborating with Tier 3 on this matter. Including, a very few days ago and sent them a bunch more files about it. Since then, as of a couple of days ago it APPEARS to have been fixed in Edge GA. I expect to hear from them tomorrow, Monday, to confirm it is, finally, a permanent fix. The behaviour had gone back to normal in Edge Beat, Dev & Canary, but GA, still was not ok unless the github extension was used. Now, it IS working fine and properly, again, without that.

I will, let you know what they tell me tomorrow... I just did not want to say anything here until I had it confirmed that the apparent fix was permanent.

Rejoice People! They finally fixed it! With vertical tabs + Title bar hidden, exiting from full screen returns to the original window size and position!

    Please try this:

Launch Edge with fullscreen resize disabled (command-line)

    • Close Edge completely
    • Right-click your Edge shortcut
    • Properties → Shortcut
    • In Target, append this after the closing quote:
      --disable-features=FullscreenWindowResize
      Example:
      "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --disable-features=FullscreenWindowResize
    • Apply → OK → Launch Edge only using this shortcut

Thanks for sharing this, Drew! Try to disable Chromium fullscreen size override

This prevents Chromium from reapplying fullscreen-derived window metrics.

    Open Edge

    Go to:

    • edge://flags/#enable-fullscreen-window-resize

Set “Enable fullscreen window resize” → Disabled

    Restart Edge

This stops Edge from widening after fullscreen video. This flag exists in Stable, Beta, Dev, and Canary.

See if this helps. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly

It appears that the issue you're experiencing with Microsoft Edge widening after exiting full-screen video mode may be related to how the browser handles window resizing and state restoration. This behavior can sometimes occur due to changes in the browser's handling of window dimensions or specific updates that may have introduced new bugs.

Here are a few potential remedies you could try:

    1. Reset Edge Settings: Sometimes, resetting the browser settings to their default can resolve unexpected behavior. You can do this by going to Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their original defaults.
    2. Check for Updates: Ensure that you are running the latest version of Microsoft Edge. Updates often include bug fixes that could resolve your issue.
    3. Disable Extensions: Some browser extensions can interfere with normal browser behavior. Try disabling all extensions to see if the problem persists.
    4. Test in a New Profile: Create a new user profile in Edge and see if the issue occurs there. This can help determine if the problem is related to your current profile settings.
    5. Feedback to Microsoft: If the issue continues, consider providing feedback to Microsoft through the Edge browser. They may be able to address the issue in future updates.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it might be a bug introduced in the recent version of Edge, and monitoring for updates or patches could be necessary.
